Ok van Batenburg | Hommage à Tom of Finland
ceramics, height 35 cm, length 55 cm

Ok van Batenburg (05-08-1930, Bloemendaal) is self-taught. At the age of 18 he wanted to become a sculptor, but he first had to bring home the bacon. He became a sports director. After his retirement he found time for his hobby of sculpting. In that time he followed several courses.

He started with ceramic sculptures and later he worked more with bronze. His interest in the masculine physical quickly came to mind. After an ‘encounter’ with Tom of Finland, he also became interested in Tom’s drawings and tried to process this influence in three dimensions. Thus the series ‘Hommage a Tom of Finland’ was created.
